Application of low shrinkage masterbatch FTM-601Y in PP

06-03-2024

Polypropylene PP is one of the more widely used varieties of general-purpose plastics, with the advantages of low density, good rigidity, impact resistance, chemical corrosion resistance, easy processing and good insulation, has been widely used in the chemical industry, chemical fibers, construction, light industry, home appliances, automobiles and packaging and other industrial fields, is a very promising thermoplastic. Although polypropylene has good comprehensive performance, but the molding shrinkage rate is generally 1.5%-2.5%, compared with the molding shrinkage rate of 0.4%-0.6% of ABS is much larger, in the processing of precision parts are subject to great limitations.

Low Shrinkage Masterbatch

Low shrinkage masterbatch FTM-601Y is made of PP as the base resin, mixed with surface-treated composite silicate mineral powder and various kinds of additives in a certain ratio, and then granulated by extruder to make carrier masterbatch with 80% of content and functional characteristics. With the characteristics of low shrinkage, super-dispersion, low linear expansion coefficient, flame retardant co-efficient, etc., it can be widely used in low-shrinkage PP system products, low linear expansion coefficient PP system products and flame retardant PP system products and other high-demand, high-standard automotive materials product parts.

Therefore, this paper tests the flexural modulus, cantilever beam notched impact strength, shrinkage and heat distortion temperature of PP composites by designing to add 20% of different kinds of fillers, i.e., talcum powder, low-shrinkage powder, foreign low-shrinkage powder, and low-shrinkage masterbatch FTM-601Y, and compares the differences in the properties of different fillers on PP.

1、Flexural Modulus

Talc Masterbatch

As can be seen from the above graph, FTM-601Y has a higher flexural modulus than talcum powder, and also has a substantial increase in flexural modulus relative to pure PP resin, which indicates that FTM-601Y has a high modulus property.

2、Cantilever beam notched impact strength

Calcium Carbonate Masterbatch

As can be seen from the above graph, FTM-601Y has a higher cantilever beam notched impact strength than the addition of talc, and the decrease in cantilever beam notched impact strength is also minimized compared to pure PP resin, which indicates that FTM-601Y has excellent impact strength in PP.

3、Shrinkage

Low Shrinkage Masterbatch

As can be seen from the above graph, FTM-601Y has a lower shrinkage than the system with talc added, and also a substantial decrease in shrinkage compared to pure PP resin, which indicates that FTM-601Y has good dimensional stability in PP.

4、Heat deflection temperature

Talc Masterbatch

As can be seen from the above graph, FTM-601Y has a higher heat distortion temperature than the system with talcum powder, and at the same time there is a substantial increase in heat distortion temperature compared with pure PP resin, which indicates that FTM-601Y has good heat resistance stability in PP.

Conclusion

The low-shrinkage masterbatch FTM-601Y in PP system has excellent low shrinkage and improved dimensional stability of the products compared with other talc powders, and also has high modulus, high heat resistance and high impact.
